To be considered to serve as a substitute in Region 12, an online application must be submitted with required documentation to Central Office for processing. Please click the link above to begin an application.
Teacher Substitutes
Substitute teacher pay is $125.00 per day. Substitute teachers are required to hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or be approved by the State of Connecticut Department of Education using form ED-174. Please include a copy of your college transcript with your application or contact the Superintendent’s Assistant to determine if the ED-174 waiver is applicable to your work experience.
Any certified substitute teacher hired for a single position that is scheduled to last 20 days or more will be paid $175 per day beginning on the first day of the assignment and move to the BA Step 2 rate after 40 days (BA Step 2 rate starts on day 41). If a certified teacher serves in a long term substitute assignment expected to last 90 days or more, the rate of pay will be the per diem rate of BA Step 2 of the teachers’ agreement.
Non-Certified Substitutes
Region 12 pays the hourly minimum wage rate as established by the State of Connecticut for each hour worked by a Paraeducator, Educational Assistant, Clerical or Custodial substitute. All substitutes in non-certified positions require a high school diploma.
Nurse Substitutes
Region 12 pays $150.00 per day for registered nurse substitutes. Please provide a copy of your current nursing license issued by the State of Connecticut with your application.
The State of Connecticut requires ALL employees (permanent and substitute) to be fingerprinted within thirty days of being notified of employment. The Superintendent’s Office will contact you at the beginning of the onboarding process with instructions for completing your fingerprinting. These instructions will include information on pre-registration and available fingerprinting locations.
