About Us

Washington Primary School Building
The Region 12 community educates, challenges, and inspires all learners to become compassionate, creative, and courageous individuals who are empowered by knowledge and character, and persevere to achieve their greatest potential within the global society.
Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and accented by the beauty of the Shepaug River, Washington Primary School is located in the picturesque countryside of Washington, Connecticut. It is surrounded by rich culture and a community committed to educational excellence. Washington Primary School serves approximately 155 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The staff, students and parents work cooperatively to provide a rich and engaging educational experience for students. Our talented and dedicated teachers and support staff create a learning environment that fosters mutual respect, expects responsibility and inspires students to achieve their personal best.

Washington Primary School is a bright and welcoming student centered learning environment offering students a rigorous academic and social program. Within each classroom, learners are engaged in relevant and hands-on learning opportunities that support the Common Core State Standards through critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration. Character building programs such as Second Step and the Responsive Classroom Approach promote the development of essential character traits of cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy and self-control (C.A.R.E.S.). Students develop leadership skills through Student Council activities, morning announcements, class and school-wide jobs and fundraising for important social causes. Our physical education program and our arts programs provide students with additional opportunities to acquire skills and concepts needed to develop healthy habits, and an appreciation for the visual and musical arts. In addition, technology is integrated as a tool for learning and expressing ideas. SmartBoards are available in each classroom as well as access to chrome books and a computer lab to enhance the delivery of instruction and to promote diversity in student work products.

At Washington Primary School, we value the home/school connection and encourage regular teacher and parent communications. Parents offer the school support by valuing the educational experience and guiding their children. Washington Primary School’s PTO is an active parent group that organizes family events, funds field trips and provides enriching assemblies for our students. Parents are welcome and are encouraged to visit and take part in all activities at Washington Primary School.

We are very proud of our learning community. At Washington Primary School, we enjoy working together, learning together and building caring friendships with one another.
